Product Overview

Active GPS Antenna SMA Male for Fleet Tracker

Product features:

The FS-G10 is a compact GNSS antenna for vehicle tracking and outdoor positioning. Its low-profile housing features a magnetic base and two screw-mounting ears, with a fixed RG174 cable and SMA male connector. It receives GPS L1, BeiDou B1 and GLONASS G1 signals, while the built-in amplifier helps compensate for cable loss. The antenna operates on 2.8–5.0 V DC supplied through the coax and provides approximately 28 dB of amplifier gain. Its patch element works with a suitable metal ground plane, such as a vehicle roof or mounting plate. Cable length, connector type and label can be customized, with Fakra, MCX and bare pigtail options available upon confirmation. When choosing a GPS antenna, check the connector, power requirements and mounting space to ensure compatibility with your device.

Application

  • Fleet and Trailer Tracking-Fleet tracking systems need an antenna that fits the vehicle and allows straightforward cable routing. This GNSS antenna can be installed using its magnetic base or secured with screws through the mounting ears, with the RG174 cable routed to the tracking unit inside the vehicle. For trailers and shipping containers, screw mounting can provide a more secure fit, particularly on uneven or ribbed metal surfaces where a magnet alone may not hold firmly.
  • Construction and Heavy Equipment-Excavators, telehandlers and generators often work outdoors in dusty, wet and demanding conditions. Installing an Outdoor GNSS antenna on the cab roof or another suitable position with a clear view of the sky helps the receiver pick up satellite signals. The sealed housing is also useful for equipment exposed to rain, dust and regular cleaning.
  • Time Synchronization and Network Systems-Cellular base stations, broadcast equipment and utility systems may use GNSS signals to keep their clocks synchronized. These installations call for a suitable mounting position, the right cable length and compatibility with the timing receiver. For an active antenna, it’s also important to check the receiver’s power supply requirements and whether it can provide power through a bias tee.
  • Boats, Caravans and Off-Grid Vehicles-Finding a suitable mounting point can be difficult when a boat deck or caravan roof is made of fibreglass or plastic. The magnetic base works on compatible metal surfaces, while the mounting ears offer another way to secure the antenna. Where neither option suits the installation surface, a suitable metal plate or mounting bracket may provide a practical alternative.
  • Shared Mobility and Asset Tracking-E-bikes, scooters and connected asset trackers often operate on busy streets, where nearby buildings can obstruct satellite signals or cause reflections. Support for multiple GNSS constellations can help improve satellite availability, although actual positioning performance depends on the receiver and surrounding environment. When selecting a GNSS active antenna for vehicle tracking, it’s worth checking compatibility with the tracking module, power requirements and available mounting space before choosing the final configuration.

FAQ

Q1. Is this GNSS antenna single-band or dual-band?

This GNSS antenna receives signals at 1575.42 MHz (GPS L1), 1561 MHz (BeiDou B1) and 1602 MHz (GLONASS L1). It does not support L2 or L5, so it won’t meet the requirements of dual-frequency RTK systems. If your application requires centimetre-level positioning, check that your receiver and antenna support the frequency bands needed for your setup.

Q2. How is the active GPS antenna powered?

The antenna receives 2.8–5.0 V DC through the coaxial cable, supplied by the receiver’s bias tee. This means you don’t need a separate power cable, but your receiver must be able to supply the required voltage through its RF port. If it can’t, the built-in amplifier won’t work properly, which can affect satellite reception.

Q3. What does the 28 dB gain refer to?

The 28 dB rating refers to the built-in amplifier, not the antenna’s own gain. The amplifier boosts the received signal, while antenna gain describes how effectively the antenna receives signals from different directions. When comparing a GNSS antenna with other models, it’s worth looking at both figures, along with the noise figure and frequency range, rather than relying on amplifier gain alone.

Q4. What cable length works best for a GNSS active antenna?

Choose a cable length that reaches the receiver without leaving unnecessary extra cable. RG174 is flexible and easy to route, but signal loss increases with cable length, particularly around 1.5–1.6 GHz. A 5 m cable may be suitable for some installations, while a 10 m run needs a closer look at cable loss and the amplifier’s performance. If you need a longer cable for a GNSS active antenna for vehicle tracking, a lower-loss cable may be a better fit. The right choice depends on your receiver, installation layout and connector requirements.
